Their adoption process is egregious at best ... as of August 12, 2016 we are STILL talking about their poor treatment of the community that supports them.
It doesn't surprise me that PETA supports SCHS position or even the idea that Ms. Madalon could be PETA supporter.
Psychology Today - Stanley Coren PhD says it best r.e. PETA ... "In addition what I found to be most distressing is that the organization seems to have an agenda oriented against the keeping of animals as pets at all." https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/canine-corner/201204/when-the-ethical-treatment-animals-goes-wrong

Based on personal experience, Sauk County is less interested in adopting to a family than they are making the process painful and humiliating under the guise of "having the animals best interest at heart". I call BS.
Unless and until the adoption process changes, the mentality of the employees change or the board gets revamped - Sauk County HS will remain an embarrassing blight on this county and state and they will also continue to have an unprecedented high rate of euthanasia. Ms. Madalon can blame their euthanasia rate on the community not spaying or neutering their animals but that would be a deflection and an insult to the community that supports her. Until and unless they make their adoption process reasonable and feasible, then families will seek animals from breeders or other shelters (if the initial experience with Sauk County doesn't turn them off to the idea of shelters all together) because it's easier and less humiliating.
Sauk County HS shelter problems and issues are theirs to own. They created them, they foster them and it's clear that despite people talking about it for 5 years - nothing is going to change any time soon.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02506264790886607913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832387493738769350.post-8498937835720830662016-06-10T16:51:33.670-05:002016-06-10T16:51:33.670-05:00I am so sorry for your daughter's loss. Her gate was left open and they picked up her dog as a stray. She was an older dog and wasn't licensed.she couldn't afford the fees and had some medical issues. She decided to have the dog euthanized. The way they went about it was very uncompasionate. Instead of looking for a vein they went injected through the chest to the heart. The first attempt did not work and had to do it twice. I would think they would at least tranquilize the dog especially with the owner present. Euthanasia done like this can be very tramatic for the owner and the dog. I know this through working for a veterinarian for yrs. After this ordeal my daughter was very distraught. Our family has always had animals as my children got older they were always there till the end when it came down to their time on earth they always were with them until the end. Not sure exactly if madacc does this often but it's something that needs to be improved on.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04710107267875105217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832387493738769350.post-19175997538875597432015-12-15T22:41:31.550-06:002015-12-15T22:41:31.550-06:00"Manner""Manner"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13243144335642416774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832387493738769350.post-65187894329820810892015-11-28T14:14:26.451-06:002015-11-28T14:14:26.451-06:00Cornelius, can you email me privately at kathypobl...Cornelius, can you email me privately at kathypobloskie@yahoo.com ? I was incredibly fortunate to also experience the dramatic difference a change in leadership could produce. When a new director arrived who freely embraced the volunteers, it was as though the straightjackets we had been forced to wear had been magically removed. We were suddenly viewed as valued colleagues rather than disruptive crazies and the shelter was immediately transformed. However, I get really concerned when I hear the celebration of shelters refusing to do OSE. Recently, I had to euthanize my 18 year old cat -- in a chronic condition that turned south very quickly. I had to schedule an emergency appointment for later that day for euthanasia, and it was not inexpensive. I'm blessed that the financial piece was a small concern compared to the sadness and stress of my cat dying a very painful death. And I often think about the pet owners in my community that are not doing well financially, and how horrible it would be to have a dying animal that you cannot afford to have humanely euthanized and then the idea of being turned away from a shelter seems heartless. Is turning away someone who needs help in this time of need the compassionate thing to do, for the human or the animal? Our shelter does perform end-of-life euthanasia at a low cost to our city's citizens. The final decision on euthanasia is our decision and we will be honest up front in our evaluation....and I'm glad it is a service we provide to our citizens, of whom, 25% live below the poverty line.kcdogbloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13727346776721922278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832387493738769350.post-73380061879458945182014-11-30T12:03:20.818-06:002014-11-30T12:03:20.818-06:00I'm happy to report that our local shelter doe...I'm happy to report that our local shelter does not offer this service anymore! I was called to a shelter wh...This breaks my heart. I was called to a shelter where I volunteer my time to socialize animals. I had just gotten home from Florida an it was the Saturday before Easter. I walked into the shelter and into the kennels where I found a fur ball of snashing, growling and fighting fur. It took time to hoop a leash around the neck of the dog and pull it to its feet and walk it out of the kennel. I walked and walked and walked this dog on a leash and slowly the growling stopped and I dropped the leash and just kept walking and this fur ball kept following me. When I sat down, she leaped into my arms, and my heart. I held in my arms a purebred beautiful Pomeranian. She is only a year old. I knew I could not put her back in a kennel where all the big dogs barking scared her. I signed foster paper, and this sweetie sign adoption papers. I brought her home with me. Yes she adopted me and end up rescuing my heart and soul. I rescued this one year old Pomp April 2014. I turned her into a sweet loving personality and very spoiled little girl. she is now being trained for Pet therapy and we go to the local nursing homes. The first week end I had her, she went on a 200 mile corvette cruise with me and has been traveling ever since. In the right hands of a loving person any animal can survive and the very best of that dog or cat can be brought out to show a very sweet and loving animal. I have rescued dogs and cats since a child. I can tell you this, any animal will change personality in a shelter. It comes from fear of the unknown and the lost of its family. Any human would change personality under the same conditions. Shelter are to quick to kill an animal and sadly they can lie about it on paper. Because after all, animals have no voice, they can not speak for themselves. Therefore we the people have to stand up, step up and get mad as hell and raise our voices to protect the rights of animals from shelter owner who are so quick to kill.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11496239632247352311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832387493738769350.post-92043452719378536892014-07-23T19:22:00.683-05:002014-07-23T19:22:00.683-05:00This is very very sad and very unnecessary, I thou...This is very very sad and very unnecessary, I thought changes were coming to MADACC.
